Area 4 director

I am running for the SCCA area director position. There are several areas within the club that I believe would benefit from changes. My determination would be an asset to seeing these changes through. The fact that I am once again a member is evidence to that fact.

What I see as the number one issue is the lack of transparency from the BOD about the clubs finances. The club is supported by members dues and is a 5014(c)(4) not for profit corporation. As such, the club has a legal obligation to make available the financial records to any member on demand. The SCCA BOD has woefully fallen short complying with this requirement, concealing large portions of the clubs budget losses from the membership. Previous and current directors have not addressed this failure. While I was collecting signatures for the area director position, I heard time and time again that the general membership felt the BOD was out of touch and unresponsive to membership concerns and complaints. If elected, I would work to change this.

Thank you for your time in considering me for the area director position. Please feel free to discuss your concerns as I contact you and travel to the different areas of the territory. Together we can continue to make SCCA a great club to be a part of.

  • During my campaigning for Director of Area 4 I have talked to a lot of people and the majority have concerns about the way SCCA is doing things.
  • The road racers I met with don't like the way the Runoffs are presently organized, and cutting it to just 4 days seems more like a long Majors weekend rather than the national championships. The entry fee for just 4 times on the track is too high. The extra practice days cost so much money to run, it feels like just another way to get more money from competitors, all the while giving the racers less. They also expressed a dislike for the way the national office gets rid of and adds classes with little or no warning
  • .The solo people don't think they get enough support from the national office for their programs.
  • The people at the regions are having trouble getting enough workers to put on their races, and the entry totals are so low, it requires very high entry fees [which leads to even less cars], just so the regions can' cover their costs.
  • These are all very important issues that will affect everybody's participation in the future.I
  • have also found out there are SCCA members with concerns about me running, let alone the possibility of me winning. I don't know how it will turn out. I am in an uphill battle with the other 3 people running, and one of them is the incumbent (appointed to fill a position vacated by the elected director), and well known.
  • But, I am well known too, and my message that more transparency will lead to more accountability and better outcomes for the club and its members has been well received by the people I have talked to.In the end, win or lose, I will continue to try to influence the SCCA BOD to make this club's decision-making process more transparent and accessible to the rank and file membership.
  • Voting continues online until Nov 15. Please vote. Your voice CAN make a difference.
