Got a survey from National about ideas for changes in Prod Brake rules. This survey will close on Friday, June 05, 2020. This is their thought process.
The Production Advisory Committee is seeking your feedback on expanding the permitted modifications of the braking systems in the Production Category. The current rules allow for modifications to every aspect of the braking system, except that stock calipers and rotor sizes must be maintained. For many cars in Production, good stock calipers are hard to find and expensive to replace/rebuild, the stock calipers and/or rotors are undersized and prone to severe fade/failure, quality race pads must be custom made, the pads, rotors, and/or calipers must be replaced or rebuilt frequently, or any combination of these issues. Meanwhile aftermarket racing calipers, rotors, and pads have continued to become more readily available from more suppliers, with more attractive and competitive pricing. These items are proven to last longer, improve reliability and consistency, and decrease part failures.
This would be a significant change to the long-standing tradition and philosophy of the Production category, however as times and available technology change, if an opportunity exists to decrease the wear and tear, routine maintenance, and operating costs of our cars, while increasing their safety, reliability, and attractiveness, then it’s a conversation that should be had. The goal is to make building, racing, and maintaining our racecars easier, cheaper, safer, more fun, and more appealing, so any proposed changes would be made for the sole purpose of achieving those goals. Your response is both completely confidential, as well as vitally important to the direction of the category. Thank you for your time!
